Marilyn Handley, PhD, RN, CNE
Dr. Handley received her BSN (1973) and MSN (1983) from The University of Alabama in Birmingham. Her MSN degree (Clinical Nurse Specialist) was in Maternal-Child Nursing. She earned a PhD in Nursing in 2002 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Handley has experience in Obstetrical and Neonatal Nursing as a staff nurse, clinical specialist, and in nursing management. Dr. Handley has taught at the University of Alabama, Capstone College of Nursing since 1995. She is an Associate Professor, currently teaching in the graduate courses, working with MSN, DNP, and EdD Nursing students.
Dr. Handley is a member of AWHONN, Sigma Theta Tau, and Phi Kappa Phi. She has obtained certification from NLN as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE). Her clinical research interests include improving perinatal outcomes by focusing on the issues of preterm births and contributing factors such as smoking cessation in pregnancy. Dr. Handley is also focusing on involving nursing students in global health activities.
