Dr. Karen McCarty has been a registered nurse since 1977, a nurse practitioner since 1998, a nurse researcher since 2003, and an educator since 1995. Her clinical background is extensive. Dr. McCarty’s research interest is in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods studies, as well as working with advanced practice nurses in evidence- based practice. She has precepted, taught and mentored staff nurses, nurse practitioners, and students at BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD levels. Dr. McCarty is a two-time graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham (Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Masters in Public Health), Masters in Nursing from the University of Florida, and PhD from the University of Central Florida. Dr. McCarty continues to practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Children’s Health System in Birmingham, AL 2 days per week where she actively applies the concepts and principals discussed in this course.
