Ms. Patterson received her BSN from the University of Alabama School of Nursing in Birmingham, Alabama in 1973. In 1982, she earned the Masters of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Health Promotion from the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Nursing. In 2003, she was certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Ms. Patterson is an advanced practice registered nurse with extensive experience in health care practice, health education, wellness, self care education, and health consumer development. She has authored over 40 health education publications and a review of health education and behavioral models. Her faculty practice is in the primary care of adults.

As an Instructor in the Capstone College of Nursing, Ms. Patterson is responsible for classroom instruction and clinical supervision of undergraduate nursing students.
