Transfer Course Information
If planning to take a course at a 4-year institution in any state or a 2-year institution in another state:
- Students will need to contact the institution they plan on attending regarding course offerings, any information they need to fill out regarding transient enrollment, and any other information required by the institution.
- Check the Transfer Equivalency Tables on your student tab in mybama under “My Banner Links” and then “Transfer Credit” to verify that the course will transfer as the appropriate UA course.
- If the course you desire to take is listed in the table as equivalent, print the page and keep it for your records.
- If the course you desire to take is listed as a different course or elective credit then you will need to find another course that is equivalent to the desired course.
- If the course is not listed on the table at all, it has not been evaluated by the Office of the Registrar. The following procedure will allow you to obtain a letter of transiency and will also begin the evaluation/articulation process of new courses.
How to Request a Transient Letter
- Log into myBama and click on the Student tab
- In the Banner Self-Service channel, click on the Student Services folder, then the Student Records folder, then Letter of Transiency.
- Select term, state of transient institution, and then transient institution
- A default address for that school will populate. Student should verify that this is the correct address for their purposes. Then click Select Transfer Courses.
- Select the courses to be taken as a transient student and use the single arrows to move them over. The entire articulation table for the institution that was selected will be visible below the selection area for reference.
- Once you have finished selecting courses, click Continue and skip to the next step in these instructions. If the student cannot find the courses he/she wishes to take, click Courses Not Found. You will then be asked to fill out an electronic form specifying the classes to be taken. The submission of this form will generate an email that will be sent to the transfer credit area in the Registrar’s Office where the evaluation/articulation process will begin for that new course.
- All information to be present on the transient letter will be displayed for verification. If everything looks correct, click Generate Letter of Transiency.
- The letter will be generated and displayed as a PDF file. From here, the student can choose to print the letter or save an electronic copy.
Notes:
- Students begin this process two months prior to enrolling at another institution.
- Students DO NOT wait until the last minute to begin this process.
- If the institution you plan on attending requires Enrollment Verification (this provides proof of enrollment for a student's financial lender, insurance company or sponsor) go to “Student Records” on your myBama account to order this. Nursing does not provide this to students.
Alabama Community College Transfer Course Information
If planning to take a course at a 2-year institution within the state of Alabama:
- Students need to verify that the course they are planning on taking will transfer to UA as the correct course. To find course equivalency information check the Nursing STARS page at http://nursing.ua.edu/stars.htm.
- Students will need to contact the institution they plan on attending regarding their course offerings, transient enrollment, and any other information required by the institution.
- Students please be aware that every institution does not have the same pre-requisites as UA. You will be required to abide by the pre-requisites set forth at the institution you will be attending.
- A letter of transiency is required by Alabama Community Colleges and it is the student’s responsibility to obtain this through MyBama. Nursing does not provide this to students. Please obtain a letter of transiency by following the procedure listed here.
