Dr. Nena Frost Sanders

Nena Sanders has a multifaceted career in nursing that spans more than 3 decades.  With expertise in clinical nursing, nursing education, administration, and consultation she has made a significant impact in the profession, both in the state of Alabama and across the nation.  Nena has ignited change and innovation through her commitment to nursing.  Her leadership and guidance in nursing education paved the way for thousands of nurses to enter the workforce prepared to excel in their various roles. As the Ralph W. Beeson Dean and Professor at Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing at Samford University,  she led the program through the most ambitious and productive era of expansion in its 90 year history. Under her direction the nursing school increased enrollment and developed new academic programs and initiatives, achieving national recognition for its academic excellence. Her success in scholarship allowed funding for research and expansions. But the impact of her work extends far beyond our state.  Active in healthcare policy development at the national level, Nena willingly shares her expertise and is a leader in the field.  She holds a remarkable number of prestigious honors and awards, including selection into the inaugural class of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Wharton Executive Leadership Program.  Her achievements are extensive; however, the true legacy of Dr. Nena Sanders is her commitment, vision, and enduring spirit that are reflected in those she has influenced.
