Biography
Sarah Spencer earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Shelton State Community College in 2017 and her Master of Science in Nursing from Samford University in 2021, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Her nursing career began in the neonatal intensive care unit, where she provided care to premature and critically ill newborns and developed an early interest in patient and family education. She later transitioned into urgent care and emergency medicine, gaining experience in the assessment and treatment of patients across the lifespan.
Since becoming a family nurse practitioner, Spencer has primarily practiced emergency medicine in rural Alabama. Her clinical experience includes managing traumatic injuries, acute illnesses, exacerbations of chronic disease, and other medical emergencies in a resource-limited setting. She has also served as a preceptor for nursing and advanced practice students, with an emphasis on clinical judgment, evidence-based decision-making, procedural skills, and compassionate patient care.
Spencer joined The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing as a clinical instructor in 2026. Her professional interests include emergency nursing, rural health, patient education, clinical reasoning, and preparing nursing students to provide safe and effective care in diverse clinical environments.
