Biography

Dr. Olayemi Timothy Adekeye is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Substance Use Research and Related Conditions (CSURRC) in the Capstone College of Nursing at the University of Alabama. He earned his Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.) from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Nigeria, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2016, and a Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.) in Labor and Global Workers’ Rights from Pennsylvania State University in 2020. He completed his PhD in Nursing Science at Pennsylvania State University in 2024.

Dr. Adekeye has extensive clinical experience in public health nursing, mental health, and psychiatric care, having worked in various healthcare settings, including a federal neuropsychiatric hospital and community-based health programs. His clinical background spans mental health nursing, substance use treatment, and health education. Dr. Adekeye began his teaching career as a nursing educator in Nigeria before transitioning to academia in the United States.

Dr. Adekeye’s research interests focus on adolescent health, tobacco products and substance use prevention, health disparities, and the implementation of evidence-based interventions in underserved communities. He has presented at national and international conferences and has authored peer-reviewed publications on adolescent e-cigarette use, mental health, and emerging nicotine products. He is also actively involved in community-engaged research and workforce development initiatives focused on preventing substance use among rural youth.
