Biography

Dr. Cheshire earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Auburn University in 1988 and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1991, specializing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a focus on community health. In 2013, she completed her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators at the University of Alabama.

Her clinical career began as a staff nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, after which she moved into home health and community health roles. In 1996, Dr. Cheshire joined the Capstone College of Nursing as a part-time clinical instructor and transitioned to a full-time faculty position in 2008. Since then, she has primarily taught Community Health courses for both traditional BSN students and those in the RN Mobility track. In 2012, she was appointed as the RN Mobility Coordinator.

In July 2021, Dr. Cheshire became the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at the University of Alabama, where she oversaw both the Traditional BSN and RN to BSN programs. She stepped down from this administrative role in Fall 2025 but continues to serve as the RN to BSN Program Coordinator. In this capacity, she advocates for RN to BSN education through active involvement in various state and national organizations.

Dr. Cheshire is actively involved in the West Alabama community. She currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Good Samaritan Clinic of West Alabama, where she also maintains an active clinical practice.
