Biography

Kunwal (Kay) Scott is a full-time clinical assistant professor at Capstone College of Nursing. She received her BSN from Augusta University in 2011. Her nursing experience as staff RN includes working as staff RN on a Med-Surg unit, Orthopedics unit, Pain Management, and Neuroscience Unit.

She obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice with Family Nurse Practitioner concentration (DNP-FNP) from Augusta University in 2018 and post-doc Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification from The University of Alabama in 2024. She is dual certified by American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Scott’s clinical experience includes Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, and Urgent care. She maintains her clinical practice currently at local psychiatric clinic in Tuscaloosa. Her areas of research include innovative strategies to engage students in their learning, mental health, and therapeutic communication. She is published and has been an invited speaker to address coping strategies, bullying, and mental health & wellbeing. Dr. Scott has received The Sullivan Award for service, Innovative Teaching Award, Capstone College of Nursing Board of Visitors Innovation Award, and Simulation Champion Award for the year 2025 at the Capstone College of Nursing. Dr. Scott is a fellow of leadership academy at Alabama State Nurses Association and TIGER program for genomics.

Dr. Scott is a member Sigma Theta Tau International Epsilon Omega Chapter, Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS), American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA), and National League of Nursing (NLN). Dr. Scott serves as governance chair Sigma Theta Tau International Epsilon Omega Chapter and on advisory council for APNA. Dr. Scott also serves as a board member at Caring Days, an adult daycare center for individuals with dementia.
