Biography
Shayla Bateman, MA, MHFA is the Student Success Coordinator at the University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing, where she supports students through both academic and personal coaching. In her role, Shayla develops and implements strategies that promote student success, retention, and overall well-being. She works closely with students and collaborates across campus to create a supportive, engaging learning environment.
Prior to joining the Capstone College of Nursing, Shayla spent nearly seven years with the Upward Bound program, where she guided high school students in their journey to college—many of whom became the first in their families to attend or graduate. Her background reflects a strong commitment to education, mental health, and student advocacy.
Shayla holds a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is also certified in Mental Health First Aid. A proud resident of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Shayla enjoys life with her fiancé and their two children, and brings creativity, empathy, and purpose to everything she does.
