Biography

Dr. Katherine Dudding received her BSN from East Carolina University in 1997. Dr. Dudding earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Arizona, in 2018, with a substantive focus in Informatics. She also earned a minor in cognitive science, with her PhD, with an emphasis on artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Dr. Dudding’s clinical background includes experience in both the neonatal intensive care and outpatient pediatrics. Dr. Dudding has over 4 years of experience as an educator and taught across undergraduate and graduate programs in the areas of informatics, data management, data analytics, and evidence-based strategies. She has mentored BSN Honor, DNP, and PhD students. She also has experience with leadership at the National level including being the past education co-chair of the American Medical Informatics Association, Nursing Informatics Working Group and currently serving on the Editorial Board for Advances in Neonatal Care journal.

Her research focuses on increasing our understanding of neonates with pain and stress in the neonatal intensive environment to improve outcomes. Currently, she studies neonate to nurse communication of pain for quicker pain relief to improve outcomes for neonates using a technology-based intervention.
