Biography

Dr. Simmons is a full-time clinical assistant professor and the coordinator of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. She earned BSN and MSN degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a DNP from the University of Alabama. With extensive experience in pediatric critical care, she has worked in emergency, air medical transport, neonatal, and pediatric intensive care units. Dr. Simmons is a board-certified acute and continuing care pediatric nurse practitioner, maintaining a clinical practice in the pediatric cardiac ICU and cardiac care unit at Children’s of Alabama. Her scholarship interests include inpatient quality improvement, nursing leadership development, and enhancing nurses’ wellbeing.
