Biography

Dr. Haley Strickland has been teaching at the Capstone College of Nursing since 2007. She received her BSN from the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing in 2004 and her Master of Science in Nursing with a Clinical Nurse Leader emphasis in 2009. In 2013, she completed her doctoral degree, Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators (EdD) at the University of Alabama.

Dr. Strickland began her nursing career in cardiac-surgical critical care and also has extensive experience in post-anesthesia and outpatient surgical care. She is certified by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) and holds current CCRN certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Her research interests include human patient simulation, nursing student outcomes, and innovative teaching strategies in nursing education.

Dr. Strickland has taught in both Traditional BSN and RN to BSN Programs. She was appointed to the role of Traditional BSN Coordinator in 2018. In this role she serves as the primary liaison between the Capstone College of Nursing and partnering clinical agencies/institutions for undergraduate programs. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Strickland serves on the UA Undergraduate Council, Sigma Theta Tau – Epsilon Omega Chapter (Past-President), and on a variety of college and community organizations.

  • Published an article on the development of a Capstone, culminating innovative simulation experience for nursing students that supports a smooth transition into the nursing workforce.
  • Published an article on the utilization of role-play during simulation to incorporate leadership and management competencies for senior nursing students.
  • Published an article which explored the changes in Emotional Intelligence scores of nursing students during a professional nursing program and the impact it has on baccalaureate education.
  • Published an article on understanding the differences in measured Emotional Intelligence (EI) scores between traditional BSN students and RN to BSN students.
