Biography

Dr. Rebecca A. Martin, DNP, MSN (E), APRN, CRNP, FNP-BC is a dedicated nurse practitioner, educator, and leader with extensive experience in clinical practice, education, and healthcare innovation.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of North Alabama, and Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing Administration and a Post-Masters’s (PM) Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Alabama.

She is a board- certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC), Dr. Martin has provided comprehensive care across diverse healthcare settings, doctor. Martin has provided comprehensive care across diverse healthcare settings, including fast track emergency care, a rural pediatric clinic, and a federally qualified rural health clinic. Her frontline experience in acute, pediatric, and primary care has shaped her commitment to improving healthcare access and advancing nurse education.

During her tenure as family nurse practitioner (FNP) Concentration Coordinator at the University of Alabama (2019 to 2024), Doctor Martin led a transformation that propelled the FNP program from unranked to 4th in the nation within three years. In 2022, she spearheaded a revision of the FNP Program’s Plan of Study, strengthening the curriculum to ensure students entered clinical practice with enhanced preparation and confidence. As part of this initiative, she developed and submitted proposals for two new courses.-Clinical Readiness and Family Nurse Practitioner IV Clinical Immersion. After approval, both courses were successfully incorporated into the revised FNP plan of study, which launched in Fall 2024. Her contributions also include:

  • Developing a comprehensive clinical guideline booklet (2019) to support student learning.
  • Creating an online Blackboard LMS FNP Intensive course (2020) to supplement a planned on-campus skills  during COVID-19, incorporating specialized modules in radiology, laceration repair, suturing, clinical documentation, portfolio development and clinical readiness.
  • Integrating iHuman and APEA into the revised curriculum to enhance clinical training and assessment.

Beyond academia, Dr. Martin maintained a faculty practice (2019-2024) at the Good Samaritan clinic in Tuscaloosa, providing primary care to rural, medically underserved patients. She also established rural pediatric clinics and satellite clinics in underserved areas expanding access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations.

Dr. Martin is a former District President of the Alabama State Nurses Association and remains actively engaged I nursing leadership and professional organizations, including the American Nurses Association, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing, and the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama (NPAA) Steering Committee and a on the board of directors for the Five Horizons Health Services.

In 2024, Dr. Martin was honored with the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama Outstanding Faculty Award in recognition of her contributions to nurse practitioner education, curriculum development, and student mentorship.

Dr. Martin is a Clinical Assistant Professor,  she remains dedicated to mentoring and education the next generation of nurse practitioners, bridging academic knowledge with real-world expertise. Her passion for education, clinical excellence, and healthcare innovation leaves a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and the nursing profession as a whole.
