Biography

Dr. Jill R. Hobbs received her BSN from the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing in 2001. She received her MSN and completed an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2005. She completed a post-master’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program in 2007 and received her EdD for Nurse Educators from the University of Alabama in 2018. She is ANCC certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner. She also has an Advanced Oncology Nurse Practitioner Certification through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. She is a certified nurse educator through the National League for Nursing.

Dr. Hobbs clinical experience includes medical/surgical, hematology/oncology, acute care, critical care, and urgent care medicine. She joined the faculty of the Capstone College of Nursing in 2017 as a part-time clinical instructor, and in 2020, joined the faculty full-time. She maintains her clinical practice by volunteering at the Good Samaritan Clinic, serving those who are uninsured. Her areas of teaching responsibility include undergraduate and graduate level courses. She has experience teaching in Fundamentals, Adult Health, Advanced Health Assessment, and Family Nurse Practitioner Clinical Courses.

Scholarly Highlights

  • Completing manuscript on recent low fidelity simulation models to teach fundamental nursing students skill acquisition during a pandemic
  • Participating in wellness in motion project as a provider to assist in treating patients in rural and underserved areas.
  • Applied for ORED grant to develop a virtual simulation for undergraduate nursing students to evaluate communication with patients regarding sexual health.
  • Working on Grant application for development of a rural nursing pathway curriculum to increase healthcare and nurses’ desires to work in rural areas.
