Program aim:
Increase and diversify the number of nurse educators in the state of
Alabama through sustained partnerships between the Capstone College of Nursing (CCN),
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and academic institutions with
marginalized and underrepresented nursing student populations.
Program Goals:
- Increase and diversify the number of nurse educators in the state of Alabama
- Recruit potential program participants with academic partners (HBCUs/academic institutions with marginalized/underrepresented nursing student populations). Potential program participants will include:
- New, experienced, or retired associate or baccalaureate-prepared nurses;
- Enroll participants full-time in the master’s in nursing education (MSN) program at The University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing in either
- Accelerated RN-MSN degree option or;
- BSN-MSN degree option
- Support participants’ transition from clinical expert to nurse educator during the program.
- Recruit potential program participants with academic partners (HBCUs/academic institutions with marginalized/underrepresented nursing student populations). Potential program participants will include:
- Partner with HBCUs and academic institutions with marginalized and underrepresented nursing student populations
- The Nursing Education Grant program consists of the following support for participants through their graduate education and educator role development:
- Employment at academic partner institutions full-time (partner);
- Enrollment in the MSN nursing education program full-time (CCN and participant);
- Development of program participants in the educator role (didactic, lab, & clinical) (CCN, partner, and participant);
- Receive a clinical release to support education via funds provided by the grant (CCN, partner, and participant);
- Maintain full-time employment as a nurse educator at the academic partner institution upon completing the MSN degree (partner and participant).
- The Nursing Education Grant program consists of the following support for participants through their graduate education and educator role development:
- Sustain partnerships after the grant period of performance
- Align the Nurse Education Grant program with broader workforce initiatives
